Title: Wake the Hollow
Author: Gaby Triana
Format: Digital Arc
Source: NetGalley
After the death of her mother Mica returns to her childhood home in Sleepy Hollow, where she reconnects with her former best friend, Bram and learns about the mystery surrounding Washington Irving from student teacher, Dane. But not everyone is happy to see Mica return as her mother was kind of the town outcast, a woman who was determined to the point of madness (according to some) to prove that her family was descended from the creator of the famous legend, Washington Irving.
Soon Mica is having strange dreams and is haunted by more than just the memories of her past. Add in a missing diary of Washington Irving, sightings of the Headless Horseman, and secrets from the past and what we get is an entertaining mystery with Mica determined to find answers.
As Mica investigates her mother’s death and the secrets she was keeping further, things only grow more complicated and frustrating for her. Mica is confused and doesn’t know who she should trust. I really felt for Mica because as a reader, I didn’t know who she should trust either. Every time it seemed like she was closer to getting an answer, a new twist would pop up. I can only imagine how Mica felt alone in a town full of people she doesn’t really know all that well anymore trying to work things through on her own. Everyone seems to have secrets and motives. The author did a great job making everyone a suspect in this mystery. I love mysteries and couldn’t wait to see how it would resolve itself.
But the story was more than just a mystery though, in my opinion. At the heart of the story is Mica and her relationship with her mother. It brings Mica “home” setting events into motion. Mica and her mother had a complicated relationship due to the fact that they didn’t quite understand each other and were separated when Mica was young. There were a lot of unresolved issues between the two and Mica struggles with this as she learns more about her mother and her life.
In her mother’s defense, I do have to say that Mica seems to have a lot of complicated relationships though…she needs some help with communication.
Anyway, I enjoyed my visit to Sleepy Hollow and the mystery of the story and hope to read more from Gaby Triana.
My Rating: 4 Stars

Genre: YA Mystery/Thriller
Forget the ghosts, Mica. It’s real, live people you should fear.
Tragedy has brought Micaela Burgos back to her hometown of Sleepy Hollow. It’s been six years since she chose to live with her father in Miami instead of her eccentric mother. And now her mother is dead.
This town will suck you in and not let go.
Sleepy Hollow may be famous for its fabled headless horseman, but the town is real. So are its prejudices and hatred, targeting Mica’s family as outsiders. But ghostly voices carry on the wind, whispering that her mother’s death was based on hate…not an accident at all. With the help of two very different guys—who pull at her heart in very different ways—Micaela must awaken the hidden secret of Sleepy Hollow…before she meets her mother’s fate.
Find the answers.
Unless, of course, the answers find you first.
