Synopsis:
Ten years ago, college student Quincy Carpenter went on vacation with five friends and came back alone, the only survivor of a horror movie–scale massacre. In an instant, she became a member of a club no one wants to belong to—a group of similar survivors known in the press as the Final Girls. Lisa, who lost nine sorority sisters to a college dropout’s knife; Sam, who went up against the Sack Man during her shift at the Nightlight Inn; and now Quincy, who ran bleeding through the woods to escape Pine Cottage and the man she refers to only as Him. The three girls are all attempting to put their nightmares behind them, and, with that, one another. Despite the media’s attempts, they never meet. Now, Quincy is doing well—maybe even great, thanks to her Xanax prescription. She has a caring almost-fiancĂ©, Jeff; a popular baking blog; a beautiful apartment; and a therapeutic presence in Coop, the police officer who saved her life all those years ago. Her memory won’t even allow her to recall the events of that night; the past is in the past. That is, until Lisa, the first Final Girl, is found dead in her bathtub, wrists slit, and Sam, the second, appears on Quincy’s doorstep. Blowing through Quincy’s life like a whirlwind, Sam seems intent on making Quincy relive the past, with increasingly dire consequences, all of which makes Quincy question why Sam is really seeking her out. And when new details about Lisa’s death come to light, Quincy’s life becomes a race against time as she tries to unravel Sam’s truths from her lies, evade the police and hungry reporters, and, most crucially, remember what really happened at Pine Cottage, before what was started ten years ago is finished.

I LOVED this book and will posting a review soon, but for today's tour I decided to sign up for a more creative option.   So as I sat down to do this post I couldn't remember if I had signed up for anything specific and struggled to figure out what to do. It wasn't a lack of ideas…it was that there were too many ideas running around in my head.  I absolutely love this genre.  I could make a collage, do a bookstagram-pic, a Top Ten list, a gif review?

Then I thought about a list of my favorite “final girls”…you know, the girls who always manage to survive until the end while everyone around them gets taken out one by one.  But I decided I’d rather share the movie just in case there is someone out there who does not know who the “final girl” is for some reason.

So here we go…

My Five Fave Final Girls Films…with gifs

Halloween- Might be one the ultimate final girl movie franchises.  The original with Jamie Lee Curtis might be my favorite, but the one with Danielle Harris is the one I've probably seen the most…they air it about a dozen times during October.

Nightmare on Elmstreet - Freddy has always scared me and I will always associate the actress who played the original “final girl” with this first film even though I've seen her in other things.  And yes, that's Johnny Depp with a TV in his lap.

I Know What You Did Last Did Last Summer- First I need to say that the film is nothing at all like the book! But both are enjoyable in their own way. Second, the film is an interesting (and sometimes predictable) take on the “final girl” teen scream queen theme popular at the time.

Scream - Technically not a final girl movie as there are a few other survivors, but there is one main character who is the killer’s target. Plus, it's a fresh take a horror film as it lays out the “rules," which I loved!

The Final Girls - This one is hard to explain. The main character is the daughter of an actress who played the final girl in 80s films. The girl and her friends get sucked into one of her mother's films and decide to change things up as things keep repeating over and over just as they did in the movie.  It makes fun of the genre a bit, but is so fun and campy.

So those are a few of my favorite horror movies with final girls…what about you?
