Book Review: A Shadow Bright and Burning by Jessica Cluess

Title: A Shadow Bright and Burning
Author: Jessica Cluess
Format: Hardcover
Source: Blogging for Books

First, I want to point out the gorgeous cover for this book!  It definitely caught my attention and was one of the reasons I even noticed this book.  I know they say not to judge a book by its cover, but in this case, I am happy to report that the story was just as captivating as the cover.

A Shadow Bright and Burning is a fascinating fantasy story featuring Henrietta, a strong and smart character with magical abilities. Much to her surprise, she is invited to train as a royal sorcerer. As the only female sorcerer among the sorcerer trainees, she definitely holds her own.  I loved reading her interactions with other characters and seeing all of the different relationships develop as she learns more about her powers and what it means...and discovers a few secrets along the way.

I really enjoyed the intriguing and imaginative world and story that the author created.  It was filled with plenty of magic and monsters to satisfy this fantasy fan, as well as just enough suspense and romance, to allow me to lose myself in the story and to keep me wanting to know more.  I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series and seeing where the author takes us.
